Introducing template dashboards for Workspace Monitoring

We’re thrilled to announce ready-to-use Power BI and real-time dashboard template reports that integrate seamlessly with the workspace monitoring in Microsoft Fabric! These community-built, open-source, templates can be downloaded through the fabric-toolbox GitHub repo and are designed to help you quickly visualize critical insights across your data environment, saving you time on query creation and offering powerful, pre-built tools for common troubleshooting and monitoring needs.

Why template dashboards?

Monitoring workspaces in Fabric requires visibility into various metrics and operational data. Instead of building custom reports from scratch, you can now use template reports, specifically created to streamline your monitoring tasks.

These templates provide:

  • Pre-built visualizations for common troubleshooting patterns eliminate the need to manually set up metrics, allowing you to dive into insights faster.
  • Fast-track time to resolution for common monitoring scenarios including long-running queries, refresh operations, ingestion delays etc.

How to download and use the template dashboards

Getting started with these templates is simple! Follow these steps to integrate the dashboards into your Fabric environment and begin monitoring your workspaces.

  1. Enable workspace monitoring: Refer to the documentation to Enable Workspace Monitoring for your workspace.
  2. Download the template files: Visit the fabric-toolbox GitHub repo and navigate to the monitoring page to download the template dashboard files.
  3. Connect to your monitoring database: Open the .pbit file (for Power BI report) or json file (for Real-time dashboard) and configure it to connect with your workspace monitoring database. Reference setup instructions for more details.
  4. Customize as needed: Although these templates are ready-to-use, you can tailor visuals and filters to match your specific monitoring needs or integrate additional metrics relevant to your environment.
  5. Deploy and share with your team: Once configured, publish the dashboards to your Fabric workspace to share with team members or display shared monitoring views for collaborative troubleshooting.
