Manual Migration needed for Activator preview items

September 2025 Update

The migration process is now in full swing. We’re in the process of disabling all remaining preview items and should finish before the end of the month. We’ll then start deleting these preview items in October 2025.

We recently announced the release of Activator to General Availability (GA)! As part of the transition to GA, there are some changes to your items to be aware of. If you created an item while Activator was in preview, you’ll need to manually migrate these items to GA to get access to all the new features.

Why This Matters

If you don’t migrate your preview items to GA, you might face some issues from limited functionality. Your preview items may be shown in a read only mode, but any rules that are currently running will not be impacted and will continue to run. In order to make any edits on your rules, you’ll need to re-create your rules in a new activator item.

With the transition dates just around the corner, we encourage you to act soon. Activator will delete all items in preview June 2025. At this point, any running rules you have in a preview item will be stopped and deleted as part of the preview item deletion.

How to Check if your Item needs to be Migrated

An easy way to check if your item needs to be migrated is if the item shows Data and Design modes tabs in the lower left corner of the item. If the Data and Design tabs are visible, you’ll need to recreate your rules in a new item to get all the newest capabilities.

How to Create a New Item

If you created your rules from an embedded experience the set alert pane in Power BI or in Data Factory follow the same steps you previously did to create your rules. Make sure to save your rules in a new item. Once you’ve created your new item and rules, be sure to delete the old preview item, so you won’t continue to be billed for those rules and so you won’t continue to get notified about needing to recreate that item.

If you created your rules in the Activator experience:

  1. Navigate to the workspace you’d like to create your new item in and press ‘New item’.

2. Select ‘Activator’ as your new item type.

3. Select ‘Get data’, choose the stream of data you’d like to use, and proceed with creating your new rules.

4. Delete the old preview item, so you won’t continue to be billed for those rules and so you won’t continue to get notified about needing to recreate that item.
