New Item Panel in Workspace

As a developer working on data solutions in Fabric, you frequently create items in workspaces. Previously, by selecting ‘+New’ in the workspace, you can access a drop-down menu with some pre-defined item types to get started. However, when you need to create other types of items, you have to navigate to a new page, which can sometimes cause confusion and make it difficult to maintain context within the workspace and folders.

Previous +New experience in workspace

Today, we are happy to announce an improved item creation experience in the workspace. By clicking on the ‘+New item’ button, you will see all item types listed in a panel, categorized by tasks. Each task represents a daily job to be done when building a data solution: get data, store data, prepare data, analyze and train data, track data, visualize data, and develop data. Within each category, item types are sorted alphabetically. You can scroll up and down to browse all available item types for creation.

Among all these item types, you can search for a certain item type by using this search box which helps you to quickly find the item type you need.

To personalize your own item creation experience, you can add your most frequently used item types to ‘Favorites’. Each time you open the ‘+New item’ panel, your favorite items will be displayed by default, allowing you to quickly start creating them.
