Introducing the New Deployment Pipelines design: A leap forward in deployment Efficiency
At Microsoft, we’re dedicated to enhancing the user experiences and optimizing processes through innovation. We’re thrilled to share that, starting the first week of September, we’ll be rolling out a new and improved design for the Deployment Pipeline. This update introduces a range of changes, additions, and improvements designed to elevate your deployment process.
What’s changed?
The new user interface (UI) for Deployment Pipelines has been completely overhauled to provide a more focused, easier to navigate, and smoother flow. The redesign includes a new UI for the page of a deployment pipeline, as well as for its creation process.
The concept of operating a deployment pipeline has also been significantly changed so now, all actions related to a selected stage are being done from its perspective, in its “area”, like: deploy to this stage, define rules for when deploying to this stage, etc.
For example, the ‘Compare to source’ column presents this stage item’s sync status to its paired item in the deployment source stage, and therefore, the status could be one of the following: same, different from source, not in source (the item exists only in this stage and has no paired item on the source stage), only in source (The item does not exist in this stage, so after deployment it will be new to this stage).
What’s been added?
The new design has a canvas area for the pipeline, and an area for the selected stage content, including advanced capabilities for a better experience like search, filter, sort and zoom in/out. In addition, the new design supports platform functionalities such as the workspace folder, Parent-child and unsupported items are shown.
What remains the same?
Current design functionalities are available in the new design as well. Also, the following views are unchanged: Deployment history, Deployment rules and the schema compare window.
Transitioning to the new design
The new UI is currently in preview, but the old UI is still available and can be accessed by using the toggle switch in the upper right corner of the page. The transition is quick and smooth, making it easy to familiarize yourself with the new UI.
