Extending flexibility: default checkbox changes on tenant settings for SQL database in Fabric
In our ongoing effort to enhance the visibility, accessibility, and efficiency of SQL database in Fabric, we are making a change that ensures organizations can make an informed decision before default enablement takes effect. We have changed the timeline for when SQL database will be enabled by default.
Initially, we planned to roll out the checkbox notification on February 8, 2025, and enable SQL Database in Fabric by default on March 8, 2025. However, based on the need for more flexibility, we have adjusted the timeline:
- February 28, 2025 – Checkbox notification rolled out globally.
- March 8, 2025 – Infobox will display this as the enablement date.
- March 28, 2025 – Actual enablement date for tenants that take no action.
Why This Change?
We understand that organizations have unique governance, compliance, and operational considerations when enabling new features. To ensure that tenant admins have ample time to review and act, we have extended the decision period by an extra 20 days.
This change allows organizations to:
1. Evaluate how SQL Database in Fabric fits within their data and security policies.
2. Opt-out if needed before the new enablement date of March 28, 2025.
3. Seamlessly integrate Fabric’s database capabilities without being rushed into a decision.
What Happens Next?
For tenant admins and IT decision-makers, here’s what you need to know:
1. Review Your Settings
SQL database in Fabric will be ON by default after March 28. If your organization prefers to disable it, tenant admins must manually turn it OFF before March 28.
2. What If No Action Is Taken?
If no changes are made, SQL Database in Fabric will be enabled for all users in your tenant. This ensures immediate access to database capabilities without requiring manual intervention.
3. Will the infobox Change?
The infobox will still show March 8 as the enablement date due to prior scheduling. However, the actual enablement happens on March 28, giving more time for admins to take action.

What This Means for Your Organization
By extending the timeline, we are reinforcing our commitment to:
1. Giving admins more control over their enablement decisions.
2. Ensuring a smooth transition with adequate time for review.
