What’s new in OneLake catalog: Data governance and more
OneLake catalog is the central hub for discovering and managing Fabric content. Whether you’re a business analyst searching for the right datasets, a data engineer managing structured and unstructured data, or a BI consumer looking for curated insights, the OneLake catalog seamlessly connects you to the right content.
Enhanced exploration in OneLake Catalog
OneLake catalog continues to evolve to deliver richer, more efficient exploration experiences. The catalog now offers expanded support in Microsoft Office; a new integration into Teams and upcoming support for Excel mean users will be able to seamlessly access and analyze their Fabric data in more critical surfaces than ever before, without ever having to leave their workflows. Meanwhile the new Insights category in OneLake catalog places dashboards and reports front and center, ensuring that decision-makers can effortlessly access all their key business intelligence in one place. And further enrichments to this category are on the way, as we bring org aps, metric sets, Real-Time Dashboards, and more item types to OneLake catalog.
The addition of tags to the catalog enables more structured organization and filtering of content, helping you to quickly locate relevant data. We’ve also introduced a new Permissions tab on the item detail pages, alongside additional tabs for Lineage and Monitoring, so you can do more of your jobs from a single location, while maintaining your current workflow. In addition, upcoming improvements at the subitem level—including search within subitems, an enhanced exploration experience for tables and measures, and a new descriptions column—will soon make exploring complex items smoother than ever.
With these enhancements we’re transforming OneLake catalog into a fully integrated, intelligent data platform, empowering organizations to optimize data-driven decision-making across Fabric.
Introducing data governance for OneLake catalog users
In today’s data-driven world, effective data governance is crucial to ensure the integrity, security, and usability of data. And today we’re excited to announce the latest advancement in this area—an all-new data governance experience within the OneLake catalog, now in public preview. With this new experience we’re empowering individual data owners with the tools and insights they need to govern and secure their data estates within Fabric.
Personalized insights and actions for everyone
To improve their individual data governance postures, data owners need actionable insights and access to relevant tools. Our new feature provides these insights directly within the OneLake catalog. This ensures that data owners have the information they need to make informed decisions about data governance in the place where they work.

Insights at a glance
On reaching the Govern (preview) tab in OneLake catalog, data owners can view a consolidated set of indicators of their governance status, including the number of items, workspaces, and domains they own, items by last refresh date, and more.

Recommended actions
To help data owners improve their data governance, we have outlined specific actions they can take. These include recommendations like increasing sensitivity label coverage, refreshing stale data items, and applying relevant tags to items. By taking these actions, data owners can ensure their data is well-managed and secure. Clicking each action provides an overview of the recommendation alongside step-by-step instructions for how to remediate the issues.

In-depth additional insights
Clicking View more above the insight tiles at the top of the Govern tab gives data owners access to a far richer set of insights, organized into three sections: Your data estate, Sensitivity label coverage, and Discover, trust, and reuse.
In Your data estate, you’ll find a broad set of overview insights about the content you’ve created in Fabric, including item insights organized by item type, last refresh date, and last access date, data hierarchy, and domain assignment info.

In Sensitivity label coverage, you’ll find valuable insights to help you understand the sensitivity of the data you own including overall sensitivity label coverage, your total of individual labels, activity around unlabeled items, and more besides. These insights will help more data owners to understand this crucial area and address issues over time.

In Discovery, trust and reuse, you’ll find insights about metadata attributes of your data estate like endorsement status, description and tags.

Tools and educational materials
The Top solutions section of the OneLake catalog governance experience provides quick access to the set of governance tools data owners can use within Fabric to further strengthen their governance posture such as Monitor, Endorsements, and Tags (preview). In addition, access to relevant documentation and engagement points within the Fabric community help ensure they have the knowledge and resources to manage their data effectively.
