Important billing updates coming to Copilot and AI in Fabric

Coauthor: Misha Desai

We’re always exploring new ways to help you more easily unlock the full potential of your data. Today, we are excited to announce upcoming pricing and billing updates to make Copilot and AI features in Fabric more accessible and cost-effective.

Introducing the “Copilot and AI” billing meter

As we continue to expand AI capabilities across Fabric, we are announcing a change to the billing meter name. Going forward, the “Copilot in Fabric” billing meter will be renamed to the “Copilot and AI” meter. This change reflects our growing investment in AI-powered features that will be seamlessly integrated into the entire Fabric ecosystem. We aim to deliver enhanced user experiences, making it easier than ever to leverage data insights and drive innovation.

Consumption rates to be lowered for Copilot and AI in Fabric

Starting on November 1, 2024, you will see a 50% reduction on the consumption rates for Copilot in Fabric. We heard from many of you that while you enjoy using Copilot, sometimes it is cost prohibitive to do all the things you need to do with Copilot.  The cost to use Copilot in Fabric will be reduced to a rate of 200 Capacity Units seconds per 1,000 input tokens and 600 Capacity Units seconds per 1,000 output tokens. We hope this change inspires you to continue using and exploring Copilot features to enhance your data-related tasks.

Prebuilt AI services to begin billing

Prebuilt AI services in Fabric (in public preview) allows for easy enhancement of data with prebuilt AI models. You can use Azure Open AI serviceAzure AI Language, and Azure AI Translator in Fabric out of the box without any prerequisites.

Starting on December 1, 2024, prebuilt AI services will begin billing, as part of your existing Power BI Premium or Fabric Capacity. The pricing rate will vary depending on the model type, and the specific pricing details will be released in our documentation in November.

AI skills to begin billing

Starting on November 1, 2024, AI skills (in public preview), will be billed against the “Copilot and AI” meter at the new reduced Copilot consumption rates (see table above).  AI Skills enables users to ask natural language questions of their data stored in Fabric’s Lakehouse and Warehouse tables, simplifying access to insights. By providing instructions and examples to guide the AI, creators can ensure the assistant understands the organization’s data context and provides a reliable data-driven response in return.

We’re continuously looking for ways to help you get the most out of your Fabric experience. Stay tuned for more details on these exciting updates in the documentation.
