Manage connections for shortcuts

Shortcuts in OneLake provide a quick and easy way to make your data available in Fabric without having to copy it.  Simply create a new shortcut and your data is instantly available to all Fabric workloads.

When you first create a new shortcut, you also set up a shared cloud connection. These are the same connections that are utilized in Power BI, Pipeline and Dataflows. Sometimes you may want to change or replace a connection that a shortcut is using. This can easily be done by editing the shortcut. But what if your Lakehouse contains thousands of shortcuts?  How can you efficiently update all of the shortcuts in your Lakehouse?

Today we are excited to announce the new manage connections experience for shortcuts. This can be found by selecting the item settings button in your lakehouse and then choosing the Shortcuts Connections tab.

With the managed connections experience for shortcuts, you can now see a full list of all the shared cloud connections that are utilized in your lakehouse. Additionally, you can see how many shortcuts utilize each connection. If there is an issue with a connection, it is highlighted in red, so you know it needs to be fixed.

From this screen, you can easily replace any of the connections listed. There are a number of reasons that you might want to replace a connection for a shortcut. Perhaps the user that created the shortcut or connection left your organization, and the connection is no longer accessible. Or you want to switch to a different connection that uses a different account or auth type. From the manage connections experience for shortcuts, click on the replace button.

Here you can select an existing connection you already have access to, or you can create a new one. Once the new connection has been selected, all of the shortcuts that used the old connection will be updated to use the new connection.

With this new experience, shortcut management just got easier, give it a try today. To learn more about OneLake shortcuts, refer to the documentation. Submit your feedback on Fabric Ideas and join the conversation on the Fabric Community.
