Learning pathways for SQL database in Microsoft Fabric
Last week, we announced the preview of SQL database in Microsoft Fabric. For those curious about where to learn more and how to try out this new offering, read on for details about the options we will be making available.
SQL database in Microsoft Fabric: Learn Together
We’re launching a new training session called the ‘Fabric Databases Learn Together’ series for those eager to learn more about Fabric Databases. This is a live learning session where you can ask questions and learn all of the basics of SQL database and Microsoft Fabric in one course, register here.
What: This six-session series will cover everything you need to dive in to using SQL databases in Microsoft Fabric – from the first steps to developing an AI-powered application and leveraging modern-day best practices for source control and deployment pipelines.
Who: The series will be taught by well-trained members of Microsoft’s MVP community, with moderators and support from the Microsoft product team.
When: The sessions will be offered the first two weeks of December – three sessions each week. You can register for all sessions, or just specific episodes.

Episode 1: Getting to know SQL database in Fabric
Explore what of SQL database in Microsoft Fabric, it will cover the unique aspects of SQL database in Microsoft Fabric, the billing, security, and usage patterns. This episode will also cover basic ‘getting started’ steps for working with SQL database in Fabric.
Episode 2: SQL database in Fabric Integrations: Dataflows, notebooks, and reports
Explore the seamless integration between your SQL database and other artifacts within your Fabric workspace. It will discuss both data pipelines and data flows, with a demonstration of data ingestion and basic transformation using a data flow. Next, the session will cover creating views using notebooks and generating a report using Fabric-integrated semantic models and views.
Episode 3: Using AI and SQL’s vector functionality with SQL database in Fabric
Focus on deploying an instance of Azure OpenAI, connecting a Fabric SQL database to it, and using OpenAI to generate embeddings for similarity search. This episode will demonstrate how to generate embedding, discuss vector databases, and show SQL’s vector database support in action.
Episode 4: Using GraphQL and application development with SQL database in Fabric
Teaching you about GraphQL and how to build an application to connect to the GraphQL endpoint that will find data related to a given search text. This session shows how quickly the GraphQL API builder in Microsoft Fabric gets a JavaScript program up and running.
Episode 5: Application Lifecycle Management with SQL database in Fabric
Cover the why and how of managing the lifecycle of your application using source control. It will demonstrate how to monitor and maintain your SQL database in Fabric, including setting up Git integration, linking GitHub repositories to Azure DevOps, and synchronizing your workspace with the Git branch.
Episode 6: Developer-centric query and performance monitoring
How to monitor the performance of your SQL database in Fabric. We showcase the Performance Dashboard feature built into SQL database in Fabric and demonstrate how view database performance metrics and identify query performance issues.
