Quickly Connect to your Azure Resources in Fabric with the Data Pipeline Modern Get Data Experience

We are thrilled to share that you can easily browse and connect to your Azure resources automatically with the modern get data experience of Data Pipelines. With the Browse Azure experience, you don’t need to manually fill in the endpoint, URL or server and database name when connecting to Azure resources. Instead, the connection will be automatically connected after you select the connection from Azure resources.

You can easily connect to the supported Azure data sources listed below. We’re currently expanding our Azure resources and would appreciate your input on Microsoft Fabric Ideas about which connectors you’d like to see supported in the Azure Resource Picker.

  • Azure Blob
  • Azure Data Lake Gen 2
  • Azure Cosmos DB
  • Synapse

To browse the Azure resources, you need at least a Reader access role on the data source.  To be able to connect to the resource with OAuth, you need at least Storage Blob Data Reader role on the data source. Find more information on access roles here.

Let’s get started with the Geta Data experience in Fabric Pipeline.  After you navigate to the Azure module, you will land into the browse Azure module.

Start the Browse Azure experinece

In the browse Azure module, you can leverage subscription, resource group and resource types to easily filter on the resources that you want.

In this example, my account is Azure Blob storage, so I will connect the resource with the Azure Blobs storage type.

Then you can select your preferred authentication kind to login. We will use organizational account authentication to connect.

After connecting to Azure Blob storage, you can easily select the file to preview data. You can also use the similar easy way to connect with other supported Azure resources.
