Unlock the power of your Iceberg data in OneLake
Microsoft OneLake is the single, unified, logical data lake that allows your entire organization to store, manage, and analyze data in one place. It provides seamless integration with various data sources and engines, making it easier to derive insights and drive innovation.
At the most recent Microsoft Build conference, we announced the integration effort between Snowflake and OneLake, which aims to allow users of both Snowflake and Microsoft Fabric to work on the same Iceberg data in OneLake, with no data duplication/movement needed. More recently, we released the preview of OneLake’s Iceberg table format support, which included the ability for Snowflake to write Iceberg tables directly to OneLake.
It’s easy to get started, and we have much more coming soon – try this feature today!
What’s new?
Since the initial preview release of the automatic conversion of Apache Iceberg tables to Delta Lake formatting, we’ve made several improvements to address limitations and boost performance. Now, creating OneLake shortcuts to Iceberg tables is faster and easier than ever.
How easy is it to get started?
Bringing your Iceberg data to Fabric is incredibly simple, just follow these steps:
- Locate your Iceberg table in any supported external storage location, such as Amazon S3, Azure Data Lake Storage, OneLake, Google Cloud Storage, or any S3 compatible location.
- Create a new table shortcut in your Fabric lakehouse.
- When creating the table shortcut, select the Iceberg table folder as the shortcut’s target path.
Your Iceberg table will then appear as a Delta Lake formatted table in your lakehouse, ready for use across all Fabric engines. This seamless integration allows you to unify your data estate and streamline your data workflows effortlessly.

What’s coming soon?
As we gather feedback during this preview, our integration with Snowflake will continue with some key new features, including:
- Automatic conversion of Delta Lake formatted tables to Iceberg.
- Converting tables that are directly written to the Tables area of Fabric lakehouses – no shortcut needed.
- Schema-level shortcuts – one shortcut, multiple Iceberg tables.
- Deeper integration with Snowflake including a dedicated Snowflake data item in Fabric to automatically sync Iceberg and Delta tables.
